The issue that is keeping us from the most valuable and irreplaceable items of our homes is also the fact that we have no system in place to determine if they are traceable.

Amazon.com has a really strong privacy policy that governs the use of their gift cards, but there are questions about whether that same policy extends beyond their Amazon.com site. The current policy for all Amazon cards is that if it was to be used for more than one Amazon.com purchase, it has to be reported to Amazon’s internal fraud review team. This policy is not yet clearly defined.

To my mind it’s probably better that Amazon doesn’t track the gift cards we use because then they’d have to deal with the fallout. We’ve been using Amazon gift cards for over a year with no problems. I’m sure we could get more clarity from Amazon, but I’m just not sure if they could or would consider it enough of an issue to be proactive.

That’s just my opinion, but I think it’s important to think about a company’s internal policies. Amazon could consider it a major issue if it’s used for more than one Amazon.com purchase.

Amazon is just not a company that would be comfortable with the idea that its customers could be tracked, nor would they be comfortable with tracking how and when customers buy things on Amazon.com. I think it’s even more important to think about Amazon’s business model. Amazon pays out to the sellers, but only if they meet a certain threshold. If people could be tracked, Amazon could pay out in a more unfair way.

Amazon has been doing a lot of good for small businesses. But I think its worth considering that a lot of the products they sell are much more similar to Amazon.com than they are to other retail stores. We should be wary of Amazon trying to “game” the system by selling items that they might not actually be selling, or selling items they could just as easily make their own.
